ABSTRACT Introduction The appropriate closure of the urinary bladder is important to many urologic procedures to avoid the formation of fistulas and strictures by excessive fibrosis. This paper presents the alterations in the bladder healing process of rats after the topical use of Copaiba oil (Copaifera reticulata). Material and Methods Ten male Wistar rats were used and randomly divided into two groups: Control group (CG): injected 1ml/kg of saline solution on the suture line; and Copaiba group (CpG): 0.63ml/kg of copaiba oil applied to the suture line. Euthanasia was performed on the seventh day after surgery. The criteria observed were adherences formation, histopathological modifications and stereology for collagen. Results Both groups showed adhesions to the bladder, with no statistically significant difference (p=0.1481). The microscopic evaluation revealed a trend to more severe acute inflammation process on the CpG, but there was statistical difference only in the giant cells reaction (p=0.0472) and vascular proliferation (p=0.0472). The stereology showed no difference. Conclusion The copaiba oil modified the healing process, improving the quantity of giant cells and vascular proliferation, but not interfered in the collagen physiology.

ABSTRACT PURPOSE: To evaluate the Adipose Stem Cells (ACS) therapy efficacy on the time and quality of wound healing process in rats. METHODS: Nine male Wistar rats were randomly distributed into three groups I) 7 days of healing; II) 14 days of healing; III) 21 days of healing. Four incisions were made on the dorsal surface of each rat and then treated with intralesional ACS, meloxicam, and no treatment and ACS+meloxicam. Macroscopic evaluation was measured by percentage of healing and histopathological by hematoxylin-eosin was performed. RESULTS: All groups have the wound reduced during the three weeks (p<0.001) and after 14 days of healing had greater reduction than others. Wounds treated with ASC had accelerated healing in relation to no treatment and only meloxicam (p<0.001), excepting the ASC+Meloxicam that was similar (p=0.13). There was no difference in histopathological analysis between lesions. CONCLUSION: Adipose stem cell have benefits in reducing time of healing of experimental model of wound in rats, observed 7 days of after application.

RESUMO Introdução: A alimentação é fator primordial tanto na prevenção quanto na promoção para a saúde humana. Dentre os alimentos funcionais destacam-se os probióticos e prebióticos. Os bancos de dados de patentes representam a maior fonte de informação tecnológica acerca de inovação em nível mundial, provendo vasta biblioteca para o setor de pesquisa. Objetivo: Realizar mapeamento nas principais bases de dados de patentes relacionada aos pré e probióticos buscando informações relevantes com relação ao uso da biotecnologia, nanotecnologia e engenharia genética na produção desses alimentos. Método: Foi realizada consulta eletrônica (online) nas principais bases de dados públicas de patentes do Brasil (INPI), Estados Unidos da América (USPTO) e o Banco de Patentes Europeu (EPO). A pesquisa envolveu o período de janeiro de 2014 a julho 2015, sendo utilizado nos campos de título e resumo das patentes, os seguintes descritores no INPI: "prebiótico", "prebióticos" "probiótico", "probióticos" e no USPTO e EPO: "prebiotic", "prebiotics", "probiotic", "probiotics" Resultados: Não foram observados, no INPI, depósitos de residentes (empresas ou universidades). Já no USPTO foram detectados 60 depósitos e no EPO 10 títulos de interesse à pesquisa. Conclusão: A tecnologia da informação ofertada pela engenharia genética, biotecnologia e nanotecnologia depositada na forma de títulos e resumos das patentes em relação à intervenção nutricional precoce como alimentos funcionais, tem cada vez mais pretendido diminuir os riscos e controlar a progressão de agravos à saúde. Mas, os resumos existentes, embora atraentes e promissores neste sentido, ainda são incipientes para recomendá-los de forma segura como ferramenta terapêutica. Portanto, devem ser encarados mais como integrantes de dieta e estilos de vida saudáveis.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Food is a key factor both in prevention and in promoting human health. Among the functional food are highlighted probiotics and prebiotics. Patent databases are the main source of technological information about innovation worldwide, providing extensive library for research sector. Objective: Perform mapping in the main patent databases about pre and probiotics, seeking relevant information regarding the use of biotechnology, nanotechnology and genetic engineering in the production of these foods. Method: Electronic consultation was conducted (online) in the main public databases of patents in Brazil (INPI), United States (USPTO) and the European Patent Bank (EPO). The research involved the period from January 2014 to July 2015, being used in the title fields and summary of patents, the following descriptors in INPI "prebiotic", "prebiotic" "probiotics", "probiotic" and the USPTO and EPO: "prebiotic", "prebiotics", "probiotic", "probiotics". Results: This search haven't found any deposit at the brazilian patents website (INPI) in this period; US Patent &Trademark Office had registered 60 titles in patents and the European Patent Office (EPO) showed 10 documents on the issue. Conclusion: Information technology offered by genetic engineering, biotechnology and nanotechnology deposited in the form of titles and abstracts of patents in relation to early nutritional intervention as functional foods, has increasingly required to decrease the risks and control the progression of health problems. But, the existing summaries, although attractive and promising in this sense, are still incipient to recommend them safely as a therapeutic tool. Therefore, they should be seen more as diet elements and healthy lifestyles.

Racional: A utilização de telas nas herniorrafias foi grande revolução na área cirúrgica; contudo, elas trouxeram algumas dificuldades, como grande área de fibrose, maior dor pós-operatória e risco de infecção. A busca por novas substâncias que minimizem esses efeitos deve ser estimulada. As plantas medicinais se destacam por apresentaram conjunto de princípios ativos que podem atuar em todos esses problemas. Objetivo: Verificar se o óleo de copaíba influência no reparo de defeitos abdominais em ratos corrigidos com tela de Vicryl®. Método: Vinte e quatro ratas Wistar foram submetidas a um defeito abdominal e corrigidos com tela de Vicryl®. Elas foram distribuídas em dois grupos: controle e copaíba via gavagem, administrada durante sete dias após a operação. A análise dos animais ocorreu nos dias 8, 15 e 22 de pós-operatório. Foi analisada a quantidade de aderências e feita análise microscópica da tela. Resultados: Não houve diferença estatística em relação à quantidade de aderências. Todos os animais tiveram sinais de inflamação aguda. No grupo controle, houve menor quantidade de macrófagos nos animais do dia 8 em relação aos demais dias e maior quantidade de necrose no dia 8 do que no dia 22. No grupo copaíba, o número de gigantócitos aumentou em relação aos dias analisados. Conclusão: O óleo de copaíba mostrou melhora na resposta inflamatória acelerando o seu início; contudo, não interferiu na quantidade de aderências abdominais ou fibras colágenas.

Background: The use of meshes in hernia surgical repair promoted revolution in the surgical area; however, some difficulties had come, such as a large area of fibrosis, greater postoperative pain and risk of infection. The search for new substances that minimize these effects should be encouraged. Medicinal plants stand out due possible active ingredients that can act on these problems. Aim: To check the copaiba oil influence in the repair of abdominal defects in rats corrected with Vicryl(c) mesh. Method: Twenty-four Wistar rats were submitted to an abdominal defect and corrected with Vicryl(c) mesh. They were distributed into two groups: control and copaíba via gavage, administered for seven days after surgery. The analysis of the animals took place on 8, 15 and 22 postoperative days. It analyzed the amount of adhesions and microscopic analysis of the mesh. Results: There was no statistical difference regarding the amount of adhesions. All animals had signs of acute inflammation. In the control group, there were fewer macrophages in animals of the 8th compared to other days and greater amount of necrosis on day 8 than on day 22. In the copaiba group, the number of gigantocytes increased compared to the days analyzed. Conclusion: Copaiba oil showed an improvement in the inflammatory response accelerating its beginning; however, did not affect the amount of abdominal adhesions or collagen fibers.
